Construction costs

Huts are the first housing Building in every settlement, with room for only 2 Peeps.

The Hut produces None levels of pollution.

Huts are available from the beginning of the settlement.

Purpose

The Hut provides only 2 housing spots, but has a small footprint. Each Hut has a range only within which its residents will travel to work.

Adjacency effects

2x Potato Patches

  • +20% happiness

2x Houses

  • -20% happiness
  • +30% storage of food and drink

3x other Huts

  • +1 housing spot
  • -20% energy restored by food and drink

Strategy

Early settlements ensure enough housing, happiness, and food by arranging Huts and Potato Patches in patterns where each Hut touches only two Potato Patches. This spreads out the Huts so they don't incur the happiness penalty Adjacency effect and ensures there is plenty of food-production nearby.

In order to unlock the House, the settlement needs to build at most 30 Huts (fewer if using their additional-housing-slot adjacency effect) and a School within range so the Peeps multiply.

The early Perk, "Increase Happiness" Effect Bonus converts the Hut's 20% happiness bonus from the Potato Patches to 40%.

Later settlements benefit from the Hut's small footprint, allowing it to fit neatly where the larger Houses don't fit—as long as they aren't sitting in between two of their bigger kinds and getting a happiness penalty adjacency effect.
